My Experience with Kerio Personal Firewall
I downloaded Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall two weeks ago in order to give it a try and see if it is all that everyone says it is. To my surprise, it was super easy to install and configure. It has a "wizard" type installation and configuration, allowing you to answer a few simple questions before it goes to work. I installed Kerio Firewall on my laptop, which I use on my patio with a wireless LAN connection this time of year. I wanted to get a firewall because of the extra computer security vulnerabilities associated with wireless LAN, and Kerio seemed like a good option.
I am now half way into the free 30 day trial period with Kerio and must say I am very impressed. Kerio has notified me several times of another nearby computer trying to connect with mine, and has given me the opportunity to block this person. It also notifies me when applications are trying to access the internet, such as Windows Update and Firefox updates, which I allow. A few times it has told me of some weird application trying to send data into the internet and I have denied this. The application description was unknown to me, so I think it may have been spyware or adware; so I think I'll do a spyware scan.
At $19.95 for a year of maintenance and updates, Kerio is a deal compared to most other personal firewalls, and starting with year 2, the price for renewal is half that. Kerio also has special pricing when you buy two licenses, which is necessary in order to protect two computers. I am really pleased with Kerio, and will purchase it for my laptop as well as my PC. As far as personal firewalls go, Kerio is one of the best I have ever used. As far as value for the money, Kerio Personal Firewall wins hands down!
